German physician Dr. Samuel Hahnemann introduced the system of medicine known as homeopathy. His primary source of income was translating medical books into various languages. He discovered a herbal medicine known as cinchona while translating Cullen's materia medica. It was written that cinchona can cure malaria, and it can also produce symptoms similar to malaria in healthy individuals. This insight resonated with Hahnemann, prompting him to prepare an extract of cinchona bark and consume it himself. To his surprise, he developed some symptoms of malaria like chills and aches. He began conducting the same experiment on different individuals, and the results were consistent.
Through this experiment, Hahnemann discovered that any drug capable of eliciting a specific set of symptoms in a healthy individual can effectively treat similar symptoms in a diseased individual. He administered Cinchona to multiple malaria patients, yielding remarkable outcomes, leading to the creation of the homeopathic system. The word 'homoeo' signifies similarity, while 'pathy' signifies suffering. The fundamental principle of homeopathy is'similia similibus curantur', which translates to 'like cures like'. Hahnemann prepared various drugs using alcohol as a vehicle and conducted experiments on different age groups, noting down the symptoms they produced. He tested nearly 30 drugs and systematically recorded the symptoms they produced. The book form known as materia medica pura categorized the symptoms collected by drug proving in order.
Hahnemann noticed that by diluting the crude drug substances in the spirit, a dynamic power is developed that is responsible for producing the symptoms in healthy people. Hahnemann began treating many diseased individuals with medicines he prepared based on the principle similia similibus curantur, which led to remarkable cures and the global spread of homeopathy.
He administered medication to certain patients and observed that their symptoms were recurring. Therefore, he comprehended the importance of treating the disease's root cause. Through experiments and observations, he discovered that certain dynamic forces genuinely cause diseases, which he dubbed miasms. [psora ,syphilis, sycosis] He observed that eradicating these miasms with a similar dynamic force was necessary for a complete cure. This idea led to the development of anti-miasmatic drugs, which have the same disease-producing power as miasms. He developed anti-miasmatic drugs, conducted experiments on diseased individuals, and discovered remarkable cures.
Development of homeopathy
He wrote the principles of homeopathy into a book and named it the Organon of Medicine. Later on, he started publishing these works, and six editions of Organon were published. From the very inception of homeopathy, numerous physicians from other systems began to oppose it. But those who were against homeopathy later learned the truth behind it and started practicing it. Physicians like Dr. J. T. Kent, Dr. Hering, Dr. Boenonghausen, et al. followed Dr. Hahnemann's mission and developed the system. They began preparing numerous other drugs based on the guidelines provided by Dr. Hahnemann. Physicians discovered that by systematically diluting the drug substance in spirit, the medicinal power of the drug increases, even though its quantity decreases. Given that diseases often stem from dynamic causes, it is essential for medicine to also be dynamic. The process of potentization allows for the creation of the same drug at varying levels of potency. They discovered that enhancing the potency boosts the medicine's penetrating power, enabling it to function at a higher level compared to the standard drug forms used in other systems. This unique nature of homeopathic medicine accounts for its remarkable ability to cure even mental diseases.
General principles
Homoeopathy treats the diseased individual as a whole rather than treating diseased parts or organs. Homoeopathy considers the physical, mental, emotional, and social spheres of a person for a permanent cure. This system holds that the derangement of vital force, an invisible power within every individual, causes diseases. In a healthy state, the vital force maintains the equilibrium of mind, body, and soul. During this, man will have normal sensations and functions. When the vital force gets affected, there will be external manifestations in the form of signs and symptoms. An imbalance in the body's functions provides a haven for foreign organisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa, enabling them to proliferate and manifest as diseases. Homeopathy posits that the true disease precedes the bacteria and viruses, necessitating the treatment of the disease's root cause for a lasting cure. The antibacterial and antiviral agents only remove the secondary causes mentioned above.
Toxic metabolic agents known as miasms, which are dynamic influences on the vital force, produce diseases. There are mainly three miasms: PSORA, SYPHILIS, AND SYCOSIS. Other schools of medicine accept these three causes, albeit under different names. Psora causes functional disturbances, syphilis causes structural changes in the form of destructions, and sycosis causes changes in the form of overgrowth. These three mutations can act individually or in combined form to produce different disease conditions.
Preparation of medicine in homeopathy
Homeopathy prepares medicines from a variety of sources, including minerals, plants, animals, toxins, diseased parts, etc. These substances undergo a special process known as potentization to prepare medicines. We potentize the soluble substances by diluting (mixing with spirit) in a downward motion, and the insoluble substances by grinding (triturating) them with milk sugar. First, we mix the crude drug substance with a calculated quantity of spirit and water, then let it sit for a few days. We extract the mother tincture (denoted as Q) from this mixture. Potentization prepares dilutions from this mother tincture. Potentization is a mathematical process by which the quantity of the original drug substance reduces but medicinal power increases. Depending upon the ratio of quantity of drug substance and vehicle (spirit or sugar of milk), there are different scales for this process. Each scale has different potencies, which indicate the power of medicine. For instance, on a decimal scale, the ratio of the drug substance to the vehicle is 1/10, and the available potencies range from 3x to 12x. In the centismal scale, the ratio is 1/100, and the available potencies are 30c, 200c, and so on; in the LM potency, the ratio is 1/50000, and the available potencies are 0/1, 0/2, 0/3, and so on. We write the potency after the name of each medicine.
The same medicine is available in different potencies. We select a suitable potency based on numerous factors such as the severity, depth of the disease, the patient's condition, the nature of the disease, the type of symptoms, the patient's age, and so on.

Homoeopathic case taking and prescription.
If you administer the right remedy at the right dose, a homeopathic medicine can cure you quickly, gently, and permanently. Giving a single drug for a specific disease may not yield positive results. To arrive at an accurate remedial diagnosis, we need to understand the patient's symptomatology. This refers to the entirety of a person's symptoms, encompassing mental, physical, and specific symptoms, among others.
We meticulously record all the person's signs and symptoms, both mental and physical. We note down information about past illness, family history of diseases, food and bowel habits, notable causes, relationships to climatic changes, constitution, and other related topics in a systematic order.
Mental symptoms:
Example: fear, anxiety, depression, anger, jealousy, etc.
Physical symptoms:
Example: Body makeup, appetite, thirst, desires, aversions, bowels, urination, sleep, taste, nature of smell, discharges any abnormal sensations like pain, burning, climatic changes, thermal relations, etc.
Peculiar uncommon symptoms:
This is the specialty of the homeopathic system of medicine. These symptoms are crucial for selecting a suitable remedy. The least important symptoms are those common to almost all patients. This explains why different individuals suffering from the same disease may receive different medicines. For instance, five people suffering from typhoid may receive five different remedies due to variations in their individual symptoms.
Particular/local signs&symptoms:
This includes signs and symptoms related to body parts and organs.
Example: If a part is affected, there may be any swelling or discoloration.
Systemic examination:-
The examination of various systems follows a systematic order. We examine the respiratory system, digestive system, nervous system, cardiovascular system, and so on. Vital signs
Here, we check the pulse, blood pressure, temperature, respiratory rate, and other parameters.
General physical examination:
We examine the body parts from head to foot to detect any changes.
Here, we diagnose probable diseases provisionally. In homeopathy, diagnosing a disease is not crucial for choosing a remedy, but it is necessary for overall management and understanding the prognosis.
Investigations: This includes lab investigations and other methods to find out if there are any other major illnesses.
Final disease diagnosis:
We diagnose the disease after conducting all investigations.
Remedial diagnosis:
This represents the most crucial aspect of homeopathy. We arrange the selected symptoms in a systematic order based on their importance. We analyze each symptom to determine its significance in selecting a remedy. We select remedies based on their similarity.
A process known as repertorization diagnoses suitable remedies. Here books called repertories are used. Repertory is the index of symptoms of materia medica (books that contain the symptoms of drugs). Today, we use computer software for repertory. Through this process, we will obtain remedies that address the most significant symptoms of the patient.
We select the most suitable remedy from this group of remedies by consulting various books and taking into account the patient's life-space investigation. We administer the selected medicine at a suitable potency and dose.
ANTI MIASMATIC TREATMENT:
The root cause of disease is miasms, which should be eradicated using suitable anti-miasmatic drugs. Any drug can eradicate the miasm if the symptoms are similar. There are anti-psychotic drugs, anti-syphilitic drugs, and anti-sycotic drugs. After diagnosing the miasm, a suitable anti-miasmatic drug has to be given to complete the cure.
